WE WORK WITH HOMES

THAT HAVE STORIES.

LET'S TALK ABOUT YOURS.

TIMELESS THOUGHTS FOR TIMELESS HOMES

Do you feel the seasons? Your house definitely does. The damp in winter, the heat in summer.  The door that sticks when the wood swells, and that gutter that always seems to get blocked with autumn leaves. Every decision made in an old house matters. Inside and out. A wall repainted, a joinery detail altered: each change, however small, shifts the feel. Therefore, we can't chase trends, search for the latest 'must have' object, or compare ourselves to the neighbours. We must look to the house as the answer.

Designing for houses with memories means balancing comfort with character, keeping the modern workings discreet and the old bones visible.  The house is both safe haven, living archive and cabinet of curiosities. The aim is not to make your house look new, but to let its age feel intentional: to preserve the patina and its spirit.

Not every wall needs moving; not every tradition needs breaking.  We do what is right for the house, and sometimes the transformations most needed are the quietest. So, if you’re here because you’ve tried rearranging the room sixteen times, bought more things that solved nothing, and are wondering whether you need a designer, a builder or a minor miracle; please read on.

A MAP FOR YOUR HOUSE

CONSULTATIONS

CONCEPT DESIGN

Studio Wallander is design-first by intention because all good design starts with a plan. No quick fixes or borrowed styles. A house benefits from a clear direction before anyone gets the hammer out, and below you will find the map of ideas that establishes the foundation. The work here is the thinking, centred on the house's identity: function, layouts, materials, light and colours, all allowing the character of your house to shine. Clarity through concept makes the choices that follow grounded rather than improvised. The Parlour Consultation and The Drawing Room Reading both provide exploratory and considered insights, whichever level of support you require.

If you need direction and fresh input on any issues, The Parlour Consultation allows you to calmly talk through ideas and angles. We identify and analyse the challenges, and then explore solutions, both to general quirks and specific problems, which you can then act on in your own time. No space is too small, no problem too particular.

If your project calls for more, you can either go via The Parlour Consultation or move straight into concept design: The Drawing Room Reading, where drawings, layouts and colour schemes help bring the whole project into focus. Included with the Drawing Room are unique maquettes, which are unlike anything you would find in a more standard design process. They are similar to stage set boxes, showing scale, proportions and the spatial intent of your space. Just as with The Parlour Consultation, you will be free to put the designs into practice without pressure.

Direction on colour, layout, and period-appropriate features, and tailored recommendations you can act on straight away.

A comprehensive write-up of the discussion, so you have a practical record and next steps.

THE DRAWING ROOM

MAQUETTE GUIDE

Every Drawing Room project includes maquettes (3D drawings), which bring your design to life.
There are two levels available:

Block Maquette – a white on white, structured 3D plan that sets out the scheme. This is included as standard in the Drawing Room price.

Concept Maquette – a more detailed, coloured version, useful for complex layouts or where extra clarity or visuals are needed.

You can view the full guide on the maquette page

THE DRAWING ROOM
A READING OF CHARACTER AND USE

It is ideal if you do not wish to work under time pressure, or want a map to stake out your next steps, as well as the vision. The maquettes included are invaluable when envisaging the space.

The Drawing Room includes:

A 90-minute working session on Zoom, focused on the space and your goals.

A visual reference board: a curated set of images and textures that capture the intended atmosphere and direction of the space.
It serves as a reference point for the design concept as a whole.

2 furniture layouts in 2D form

2 colour schemes detailing exact colours and paint finishes, as well as any relevant wallpaper suggestions.
