ANTIQUE BOOKCASE WITH OLD BOOKS AGAINST A GREEN WALL AND PATTERNED WALLPAPER

VICTORIAN BREWERY

THE BREWERY

Originally founded in the late 18th century and significantly expanded during the Victorian era, this former brewery has since been sensitively adapted into a series of luxury residences. The project sought to honour the building’s industrial past while introducing a quiet elegance to its interiors.

Strong  mid-Victorian colours, such as dark blues, dirty mustards and deep reds, together with floral patterns combine to make for a bold and vivid interior. The palette was drawn from the past of the Brewery: mustard coloured beer, the blues from the stream that powered the water wheel, and the reds of the brick of the façades.

LIVING ROOM

Old books, antique bookcases and art were used both for their beauty and to introduce a sense of weight into a, to begin with, plain space. There were already a great number of paintings, which were incorporated to create impact and to balance the dark and enveloping walls.

An alcove, already cut out of the room, was a natural use for a study nook. Simple open shelving on the upper half of the wall delineates the space and the antique desk fits perfectly below.
