LATE GEORGIAN TERRACED HOUSE
BEDROOM
THE COLLECTOR'S HOUSE
FIRST FLOOR BEDROOM

This bedroom in an 1830s terrace, originally built for domestic staff in the University and manual labourers, is a small room, benefiting from only one window. Working with what is there, meant there was an opportunity to create something special and enveloping. The north facing light is pale and even, and requires strength as a counter balance. Trying to make the room lighter and brighter will not work and taking the dark road instead offers greater reward.
The house itself is a little jewel box. You can read about the plans for the downstairs HERE and see the Doll's House 3D model HERE.
Building on the palette of the pink, deep reddish brown and green from the ground floor, an aged green with a smoky undertone was washed over all the walls, ceiling and woodwork to erase the edges of the room. Mustard was used as a highlighter with depth to add warmth to the cool light. The result is a masculine but soft space, suitable for relaxing, reading and recharging.
The room is a haven. On drizzly days it is a cocoon, on sunny days it reaches for cheerful.
